Day 1 Genesis 1 through 3
January 1, 2025
Genesis 1-3:
Chapters 1 and 2 are largely considered the creation account chapters by many modern day Christians through out the world today. We are told in both chapters 1 and 2 that God created the human race in His image and likeness from the dust of the Earth. This is something called back on many times in the Bible. It is the biggest revelation we get from these early chapters and what I often focus on the most any time I am reading these early chapters.
This is why the lie told by the serpent in chapter 3 is so sad and misleading even for the modern Christian reader. We see in Genesis 3:5 "for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" NRSV. The serpent tricked Adam and Eve here by making it sound like God was hiding something from them and got at their desire to be "like God". This is something we struggle with till this day. Now I like to point out that the serpent fooled Eve and Adam as we can read in verse 6 "she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate." NRSV. I think a lot of modern readers skip the part "who was with her"
I am glad the story doesn't end there and we get the first gospel in the Bible a few verses down Genesis 3:15 "I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel." NRSV This is our first hope of a savior.
Let's end day 1 with a prayer that God has sent his Son to deal with the sin caused by the serpent and his lie that we can be "like God" even though God already said we were made "in His image and His likeness" amen.
